Seventy six people qualified throughout our Rileys venues for the National Final held in Rileys Wolverhampton on Saturday 7th December. There was some big names that qualified including Ian “Joppers” Joppling, who wasn`t quite sure what Ian would turn up

Jake Byrne who qualified at Rileys Victoria

As well as Alex Roy (qualifier at Harlow), Mark Barilli (qualifier at Greenock), Kevin Painter (qualifier at Nottingham) and Steve Hine (qualifer at Coventry), to name just a few.

With 63 runners turning up Lloyd Pennell  (qualifier at Nottingham) was the lucky man to get the bye into the Last 32. The big game in the last 64 saw Kevin Painter take on Trevor Burkhill (qualifier at Sheffield), Trevor starting the day off with a nail biting 5-4 win to send the Artist packing. Alex Roy came through his game with a comfortable 5-1 victory, Mark Barilli seeing off Chorltons qualifier Craig Winstanley 5-2, 5-2 and Simon Preston (qualifier at Chorlton) losing out 5-3 to Martin OBoyle (qualifier from Liverpool)

Into the last 32 saw Lloyd Pennel enter the stage and comfortable polished off Adam Wood (qualifier from Solihull). BDO Player Adam Smith Neale (qualifier from Leicester) narrowly lost out 5-3 to Trevor Burkhill. Another Leicester qualifier Dave Pallett edged local player and qualifier Solihull, 5-4 to progress to the last 16.

The Last 16 saw 5-3 wins for Trevor Burkhill over Lloyd Pennell, Alex Roy edged out Eddie Lovely (qualifier at Sheffield) 5-4, Mark Barilli saw off his Greenock compatriot William Borland 5-3 and Coventrys Mark Carter progressed at the expense of Martin OBoyle 5-3. The clash of the PDC old and new, saw Dave Pallett take out the Muffin Man Steve Hine 5-3. Also in the bottom half saw Nathan Derry (qualifier at Norwich) take out John Guy 5-3, Kev Garcia taking out Ian Wiggin (qualifier at Worcester) 5-1 and Jack Main (qualifier at Norwich) take out Daniel Lee (qualifier at Solihull) 5-3.

The money started getting bigger as we entered the Quarter Finals. Trevor Burkhill vs Alex Roy was the game of the round, Alex having match dart after match dart, and every time Trevor picked his pocket, eventually winning the decide 5-4. Mark Barrillis long journey from Greenock was looking well worth it after he beat Coventry`s Mark Carter 5-1. Another battle of the PDC players saw Dave Pallett take on Nathan Derry and triumphing 5-3.The last game saw Kev Garcia take out Jack Main 5-2.

The Semi Finals stage and there was still £2,900 in cash to be won. The format and the standard went up a notch in all games and the Glasgow train that was Mark Barilli dispatched  Sheffield`s Trevor Birkhill 6-4. In the other semi it was another close affair as Kev Garcia nipped Nathan to the line with a 6-5 victory.

The final was as good as, if not better than the battle of Manchester on the Big Screen! Mark Barilli went toe to toe with Kev Garcia, it was tonne after tonne, 140 after 140 and it deservedly went the distance as the two players couldn`t be separated at 5-5. The final leg was won by Kev Garcia to take home the £1,500 winners cheque and the title of Rileys Heineken Darts Master 2019.

Thanks too all players that took part in the qualifiers and those that travelled to the finals.
