The one time of the year where non gamblers have a flutter, yes its the Aintree Grand National festival time of year.
Official going from the Clerk of Course is Good to Soft.
We have 5 live races for you on our BIG SCREEN today, with plenty of pool tables (and beer!) to keep you amused in between races. First up, but not televised, is the small field for the Novices Chase. Six runners go to post with a short favourite which we are opposing! We think the force is with us today so Glen Forsa gets the nod for us. He was very unlucky unseating his rider in the Arkle recently. Trading generally 4/1, this could fill the pockets for the rest of the day.
Another small field in the Juvenile Hurdle at 2:20, with an even shorter favourite in Band of Outlaws. The impressive win this horse had at Cheltenham in the Fred Winter and the impressive pace going up the home straight should see a four successive victory for the O`Brien horse.
The next race of the day is the 2:50 Betway Bowl Chase with 6 runners going to post. An old favourite of ours is runs, in Clan Des Obeaux. Third in this race last year, and we tip Harry Cobdens mount to go 2 better this year for Paul Nicholls.
The big race of the day is Betway Aintree Hurdle, 9 runners go to post with an odds on favourite in Buveur D`air. We cant tip an odds on for you so we have looked for some each way value for you here. A Power and Harrington combination on Supasundae gets our nod here. Had a great race here last year with a great second, he can definitly go one better this year, trading currently at 12s.
So hopefully you will have 3 winners in the bag and a placed horse by now, so get to the bar and treat yourself, but make sure your back in your chair for the 4:05! The Randox Health Foxhunters Chase is a huge field with 27 runners, more than the total horses ran so far today! I have my pin at the ready for this pick, firstly make sure you pick the right bookmaker to get paid for 5 places. We are looking no further than the Gordan Elliot stables, Kruzhilinin gets the each way shout from us.
Psssst Hatrick Happy Hour* start in venues at 4.00 pm!
Last race for the Opening Day is the Red Rum Handicap at 4:40 pm. We think we might have found a cracker in this Sue Smith horse. Cracking Find has some good results on soft or softish ground which could be the difference in this 2 miler. Back each way.
