Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s a time machine!
The spanky, shiny, beauty beast that is the DeLorean DMC12 was the car of choice for inventor Dr. Emmett Brown as he screeched to an optimum speed of 88mph, breaking the laws of physics thanks to his flux capacitor and headed ‘Back to the future.’
Alas, the real DeLorean was incapable of time travel although somehow it managed to look ahead of its time with decidedly antiquated engineering back in 1976 when the first prototype appeared. The entire car was deemed to require almost complete re-engineering, which was turned over to engineer Colin Chapman, founder and owner of Lotus. Production of the car stopped in 1982 and it’s believed 6,500 of the cars still exist.
