Bring on the young pretenders

Unicorn World Under 21 Championship backed by the PDC is offering a prize fund of £30,000 and a live screening of the final on Sky Sports.

As Phil Taylor powers on it’s time to find a top contender who can shake up the world of darts and graduate to the big stage to topple even the mightiest
of players.

The World Under 21 title is about making a mark and stepping up to the oche
with the big boys. The tournament ranks amongst one of the most important in the game as it will unearth the talent that will become the next generation and take on the mantle held by the greatest of the great – Phil Taylor.

The Power himself acknowledges the significance of the tournament. “The game has moved on so much in the last few years with prize money, TV coverage and of course the overall standard of the game, but this tournament will bring young players through and put them in the spotlight. It’s crucial that the cream rises to the top and that these young players get the chance to break through. Of course I’ll be fighting to hang on the World Crown for as long as I can, but when I move off stage the game lives on and we need names and talent to keep the game moving on”.

First round qualifiers will take place in over 40 Rileys clubs throughout the UK, on successive Saturdays of 16th and 23rd of October (a full list of venues is available on the dedicated web page).
The winners will join the last 64 at the Barnsley Metrodome on
Saturday 6th November 2010 to play out for a place in the Grand Final which will be played out live on Sky Sports prior to the World Championship final at Alexandra Palace. Additionally, the two finalists will also be invited to become PDC ProTour card holders for 2011 and 2012 and would receive sponsorship from Rileys Dartzones, the PDC’s staging partners in this event.

Closing date for entries is 1 October and entrants must be between 16 and 21 on 3 January, 2011.
