It was a special mission which needed sorting, and fast...
Our Boys had run out of one of their most important pieces of equipment – darts!
But at Camp Bastion there was one man who could crack the logistics of this desperate darts dilemma.
Sergeant Major Darryl Hoey of the 4th Regiment, Royal Artillery.
Using all his military communications skills, SM Hoey got a message through to Rileys Marketing Director Sean Langley.
It read: Can you help with some new darts, please? Supplies exhausted. Boys throwing each other at the board!
Sean moved with lightning speed and the darts and flights were duly despatched via the Post Office and the Forces Welfare Packages Service.
A few days later came SM Hoey’s second message.
It read: Thank you Rileys. You are all heroes. Morale has gone through the roof. We not all Phil Taylors yet, but we’re getting there.
Chief Executive Maurice Kelly said: “We are delighted to be able to help. If Rileys darts can help keep morale high, and the boys in good spirits, then that is job done.
“No one should forget what they are all doing on our behalf.”
