Stevenage Darts ace savages Wolfie!

(Posted: 22 Oct 2010)

It was a night to remember for amateur darts player Frank Raleigh as he claimed the scalp of BDO World Champion Martin ‘Wolfie’ Adams at Rileys Stevenage.

Adams was at Rileys Letchmore Road in Stevenage to open the new Darts Zone at the club.

Carer Frank, 50, of Ripon Road, Stevenage - who plays for Rileys in the Monday Night Darts Super League - checked out on double 10 to beat Adams in a leg of 501.

Frank, a married dad-of-two, said: “I didn’t expect to win at all. I just played up to my standard. I got a little bit of luck, but I’m delighted.

“It’s great to have beaten a world champion. I think he must have been taking it easy on me. I only got back into darts about six years ago after my children grew up!”

“I like the Darts Zone, it’s a good place to throw your darts, especially in tournaments.”

Adams and PDC World No 9 Colin Lloyd took on a host of local players and were full of praise for their opponents - and the new Darts Zone at Rileys.

Adams said: “We’ve faced some great players here in Stevenage. I’ve been especially impressed by the standard of the younger players.

“The Rileys Darts Zone is good news for darts in Stevenage. It offers a place for players of all abilities to come and practice in tournament conditions.”

Rileys, the UK’s largest pool and snooker hall operator, are opening Darts Zones in their clubs nationwide providing a top quality venue for players of all levels.

The Darts Zones features six wide throwing lanes, championship-quality boards and electronic scoring.
