Footie fans dig deep for charity

(Posted: 1 Sep 2010)

The Rileys Football Fanzone clubs that took part in the Community Shield Charity weekend piled up an amazing £7,571.41 as Man U piled in the goals at Wembley!

Sir Alex Ferguson and his lads might be a top team, but when it comes to raising cash, Rileys managers and their top teams take some beating.

The table toppers were the Prestwich team, led by manager John Crowely. They raised £1,150 for the Francis House charity.

Runners-up Ipswich, led by Ross Lincoln, pulled in £919.00 for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Third place went to Scunthorpe’s Matt Crooke and his team, who really cleaned up after offering a bathroom suite as a prize!

Matt said: “We were absolutely delighted when a local firm gave us the bathroom suite for a prize.

“It was an act of real generosity, and really boosted the amount of money we raised for the cancer charity Christie’s.”

Marketing Director Sean Langley said: “Thank you all. This is a really fantastic effort by everyone involved.

“Rileys are very pleased to reward the top four clubs with £250 each for a staff party. Enjoy yourselves – you deserve it!”
