Amateur Rileys players, who had secured their places through tournaments at Rileys clubs, faced snooker’s big guns in the ‘FA Cup of Snooker’.
Joel Walker and Sam Harvey kept the flag flying longest as the Rileys qualifiers went into battle in the World Snooker Open at Sheffield’s Academy.
16-year old Walker, who was crowned winner of the inaugural Rileys Future Stars competition by Ronnie O’Sullivan this year, took out Julian Logue 3-1 in the First Round, before falling to Maltese veteran Tony Drago in Round Two.
Stevenage club winner Sam Harvey won his First Round game 3-0 against Anish Gokool before coming up against Welsh professional and World No 45 Dominic Dale and losing 3-1.
Despite all of the qualifiers making their exits, it was a proud weekend for Rileys. We commend the efforts of all of our qualifiers and look forwards to welcoming them back to their hometown clubs.
